The funny thing about planting a garden is that you never really know what to expect. Sometimes seeds you thought were too old will germinate like mad. Sometimes the thing you were most excited about is a total dud. But my favorite thing is when plants just sprout up as if from nowhere. In reality, they have self-sown or come along for a ride through the compost bin, but it always seems like those seeds are the ones that end up the happiest. The ones I don’t try and control. This piece is a study in letting go. Just like those wild seeds in the garden, here I’ve explored layering and texture in a way that was new to me with unexpectedly exciting results.
