6 Minted Save the Date Card Sizes & Formats

1. Classic (5” x 7”)

Minted’s standard save the date size measures 5” x 7” and comes in both portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal) design options. Our most popular size, the 5” x 7” is available as flat or folded-over cards, which allows you to write a message to guests inside, if you have extra wedding details you’d like to share. If you select the flat-card format, you’ll have ample room to provide additional information and photos on the back of the card. We have a number of original layout templates you can select for the back of your card that will allow you to share engagement photos, include a monogram and love story, or feature a map. Or, you can simply choose a color or patterned backer for some extra design flair.

Choose from over 1200 original designs created by talented independent artists. We have save the date examples that feature a photo (or multiple photos) as well as options that are more design-forward and exclude personal imagery. Find an option that perfectly complements your preference and style. You’ll also find a wide array of card shapes to choose from, including rounded corners, scalloped edges, or notched corners. In addition to standard printing, Minted also offers letterpress, foil-pressed, and vellum options in this traditional sizing, if you’re looking for a way to add some extra pizzazz to your correspondence. Our luxurious foil-printing comes in eight gleaming colors—gold, silver, rose gold, glittery gold, glittery silver, ice blue, black, and bronze. The classic 5” x 7” save the date is also available in letterpress, which is an artisanal printing technique that yields a thick card with a luxurious, tactile quality. Lastly, consider a unique presentation through a vellum format, which features a transparent overlay sheet on top of a thicker opaque cardstock. This combination creates an impressive multilayered design. Get creative and display your wedding date on one layer and an engagement photo on the other.

2. Petite (4.25” x 6”)

Minted’s petite save the dates are marginally smaller in size, measuring 4.25” x 6”. However, despite the smaller size, this smart and chic format still allows for plenty of room for photos and text, as well as tons of customization and layout options both sides of the card. You can also choose from flat or fold-over formats, as well as an array of color palettes, paper stocks, fonts, card shapes, and printing methods, including foil-pressed. Also, since our petite cards include free envelopes, enjoy the option to customize your wedding correspondence even further by personalizing the mailing envelope. Instead of standard white envelopes, you could select from numerous color options (and you could even opt for white ink printed on any of the darker-colored envelopes for an extra-special touch). Be sure to select Minted’s complimentary recipient addressing service—all you need to do is upload your wedding guests’ addresses and we’ll print the addresses on the mailing envelopes for you, for free. Save time collecting and organizing your addresses with the new Minted mobile app!

3. Postcard (4.25” x 6”)

Have your sights set on a more wallet-friendly option? Minted’s postcard save the dates fit the bill perfectly. Measuring 4.25” x 6” and designed to be double-sided, like a standard postcard, these can be mailed without an envelope, which means you’ll save on postage. At the time of this writing, postcard stamps only cost $0.35 as opposed to a more traditional $0.55 1oz. stamp. This postcard format still includes many of the customization options as Minted’s larger-size formats. For example, you can personalize both sides of your design with your choice of colors, text, and printing methods (choose from foil-pressed and standard printing). But don’t forget that half of the back of the postcard will need to be reserved for the guest’s address and postage, so be mindful of space as you’re customizing this save the date card size.

The convenience factor of these postcards is also a huge plus. Cut down on assembly time since there aren’t any envelopes to stuff. If you also opt for Minted’s free recipient addressing service, then all you need to do is simply affix a stamp and they’re ready to be dropped in the mail!

4. Grand (6” x 8”)

Minted’s newest offering, the grand 6” x 8” size, is the largest and most awe-inspiring of all the formats we offer. The larger card size gives you more room to show off your engagement photos. Opt to display a single large-scale photo or a collage of several favorite images, as well as tell your engagement and wedding story. All of the grand-size save the dates feature the same high-quality printing, paper quality, colors, layouts, envelope options, and embellishments that our company is known for. Personalize a card that will dominate their mailbox and stand out from the pack.

5. Magnets (4.25” x 6”)

For a unique twist on the traditional format, consider magnetic save the dates. These stylish magnets can be affixed to guests’ refrigerators or office whiteboards. Ensure that your wedding date stays top of mind, rather than buried in a stack of mail. Minted’s magnetic save the dates are printed on luxe cardstock and feature the same sharp picture quality as our paper cards. Our magnets also come in a signature array of color options, including gold, silver, and rose gold foil. For more magnet inspiration, check out our Guide to Save the Date Magnet Ideas.

Additional Things To Consider

As you browse through the different save the date examples available, be sure to consider the following:

  • What to include in your correspondence: Once you’ve chosen your format and design, be sure yours includes the following key details:
    • Your names
    • Wedding date
    • Wedding location
    • Wedding website URL
    • A note that the formal wedding invitation will follow
  • Be concise. The save the date is different from the wedding invitation and is meant to only give the essential information guests might need six months or so in advance. Also, if you’re considering postcard or magnet formats, remember that you’ll have limited space on the back of the card so try to be as concise as possible. Also, include your wedding website URL. This way guests can visit your website for more in-depth wedding details or guidance if plans change. With restrictions and advice constantly changing in regards to the coronavirus pandemic, your wedding website is the ideal place to keep guests informed.
  • Create a cohesive theme. All of our wedding stationery features coordinated envelope designs, so it’s simple to create a unified, cohesive look to your mailed correspondence.
  • Tell your love story, your way. Share your wedding journey with your guests to help them get to know you as a couple and give them a glimpse into the celebration you’re planning. Minted’s myriad of photo and text layouts give you plenty of options to choose from in order to perfectly convey your unique love story.
