About the work
I love the way light interacts with water. This landscape painting employs the physicality of the paint to emphasize the watery aspects of the sea in relation to the glittering sunlight hovering on the water’s surface. I based this painting on a photograph I took while boating in the Canadian Gulf Islands.

The waters and skies surrounding my home on Bainbridge Island, Washington provide me with endless inspiration for my landscape-based paintings. My work combines bold color and loosely applied paint to emulate the poetic interaction of sunlight on the water’s surface as well as the abstract qualities of clouds and sky. Working with water soluble oils or gouache, I use fluid brushstrokes to evoke sunlit spaces and to highlight the organic patterns I find repeated in nature.
