Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums to work with as an artist. The nature of the paint is free flowing and you can never be absolutely sure how a painting will turn out. In that spirit, I approached this piece as I do all of my watercolor artwork, by starting with a simple line or shape and building off of it intuitively. This was a study of wavy lines of different lengths and how they interact with each other to create a pattern effect. The end result reminds me of the constant movement of the ocean.

    about the artist

    byKristine Sarley

    Chicago, IL

Kristine is a graphic designer and mixed media artist working out of her home studio in Chicago, IL. Her artwork is created by experimentation with mark making through the use of different mediums and tools. Inspiration often comes from patterns in nature and the repetition of the city. She has a love for mixing unique and special colors through trial and error and the color palettes for her paintings evolve through that process.
