About the work

I love it when I have a chance to soften geometric shapes with flowy gouache or watercolor paint. Like much of my work during the summer of 2015, the relaxing blues in this pencil and gouache painting were inspired by my lifelong relationship with water. My hope is that this painting brings a sense of calm to the room where it lives, and that it makes the people who enter the room feel like part of nature is right there with them.

    Melanie Biehle is an American artist who paints what places feel like. Her work is inspired by Louisiana landscapes, Pacific Northwest mountains and forests, the coast of California, New York City architecture, and Seattle skylines. Melanie studied abstract painting at Gage Academy of Art. She was born in rural Louisiana and spent most of her adult life on the West Coast. No matter where her journeys take her, Louisiana, the Pacific Northwest, and Southern California will always live inside her.
