About the work

Painting these squares with smooth lines freehand with no pre-planning and complete intuition was a challenge in patience and rhythm. I often find the simplest forms of black and white lines freeing and calming, and this piece is perfect for a light, sunny eclectic room with natural elements. Each stripe is painted with seven layers of acrylic white gesso paint. I'm often finding patterns and connections in everything I paint - from geometric minimalist work to animals and landscapes. This piece is a perfect addition to a neutral color palette or a light tone to a colorful modern room. Parallel and intersecting black & white stripes are also a lovely addition to a baby's room.
