I was inspired to create this alternative photographic piece based on my love of hydrangea - also known as hortensia. I used a wet cyanotype process with hydrangea from my garden and added digital editing to highlight the details. I wanted to capture the roundness of the mophead and give the work depth - which I achieved with the dark background. Hydrangeas symbolize many things, but for me the most poignant is gratitude. I am always grateful for these beautiful flowers in my garden. By creating cyanotypes I am able to keep a botanical diary of my garden from year to year - if the time comes when I am no longer able to tend my garden, I will have these gorgeous memories of the beauty I was once able to coax from the earth.
